If you can't seem to keep your focus on what the teacher is saying and fear that this may get in the way with a solid academic performance, follow the tips below to improve your attention span in the classroom.

How to Pay Attention in Class

  1. In order to be able to learn and focus on your classes, you need to have a strong mind and body. To that end, try your best to lead a healthy lifestyle.
  2. If your mind tends to wander, take some time before class begins to prepare mentally and realize it's time to focus on learning.
  3. Obviously, you will need to put distractions away. This includes your cell phone, games, or anything else that may break your focus.
  4. If you want to increase your chances of paying attention, choose the right seat: one that's at the front and center of the room, and away from the door, windows, and your friends.
  5. If you're laying down on your desk or turning away, you won't be able to focus. Sit up straight and face forward to be more receptive.
  6. It's highly suggested that you take notes during class. This will keep you focused on what you're being taught, and it will provide you with study material for later on.
  7. You should also make an effort to get involved. Share your ideas and listen to your classmates to have a more enticing and enriching experience.
  8. Finally, if one day, you simply can't bring yourself to pay attention, try not to distract others.
